The History of Pokémon
The Beginning
Pokémon, short for "Pocket Monsters," was created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori. The franchise began in 1996 with the release of Pokémon Red and Green for the Game Boy in Japan. The games were an instant success, leading to an expansion of the franchise to include trading cards, an anime series, movies, merchandise, and more.
Global Expansion
In 1998, Pokémon made its way to North America with Pokémon Red and Blue. The franchise exploded in popularity, becoming a global phenomenon. The Pokémon anime series, featuring Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu, became one of the most successful anime series worldwide.
